PROPERTIES
Linseed standoil with high acidity is a heat bodied
refined linseedoil with an increased acid value, light colour, minimum
subsequent yellowing, excellent pigment wetting and dispersing properties and
good drying. These standoils are developed-quality raw materials for the
production of calcicoaters or limed oils. When saponified with lime and diluted
with white spirit, they yield high viscosity systems even up to a gel. Limed
oils are especially useful in primers and flat and semigloss paints where the
non-penetrating character of the Ca-soap is important in maintaining the
pigment/binder ratio in the film at a similar level to that of the applied film,
even when the paint is applied to a surface of variable porosity.
