2) Composition/information on ingredients

Composition: vegetable triglyceride oil, derived from the flax plant Linum usitassimum, which has been oxidatively polymerised, yielding a mixture of triglycerides and inter-molecular polymers, and containing small quantities of metals (<0,1% w/w) which act as a drying agent

3) Hazards identification

Main hazard: none that require special labelling

Special hazard: self-ignition of soiled clothes or rags is possible: burn up or spread out to dry

4) First-aid measures

Eye contact: flush with plenty of water; call for medical advice

Skin contact: wash with water and soap

Ingestion: laxative, call for medical advice

Inhalation: not applicable, no vapours at ambient temperatures

5) Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

suitable: CO2, foam, dry powder, sand

not to be used: water may spit and spread the fire

Dangers during combustion: production of a heavy acrid smoke, drops can cause severe burns

Protection against fire: keep away from flames and sparks

Special exposure hazards: prolonged heating at 230 °C can cause combustion and decomposition

6) Accidental release measures

Linseedoil is a drying oil, which, if left over a few days, will form a hard film

After spillage/leakage: evacuation is not necessary

on soil: wear slip-proof shoes, clean and wash with water and soap, contain larger volumes with sand or earth, sweep up and dispose of in accordance with regulations, spray regularly and keep moist to prevent self ignition

in water: the product floats and can be skimmed off

7) Handling and storage

Handling: respect the normal precautions for handling liquid chemicals, wear non-absorbent gloves and safety goggles when handling hot oil

Storage: store in a cool, dry and dark place, use plastic and/or steel drums/containers/tanks, keep away from oxidising chemicals

Ingredients with threshold limits: none

Respiratory protection: not required at normal temperatures

Hand protection: use barrier crèmes or wear non-absorbent gloves when handling regularly

Eye protection: wear safety goggles when handling hot oil

Skin protection: wear normal industrial clothing and wash regularly

Conditions to avoid: very fine dispersions may possibly self ignite in contact with air

Hazardous decomposition products: stable under normal conditions, produces a complex mixture of irritating fumes during combustion

The oil is not considered as toxic

Oral: no side effects encountered

Skin: harmless, no side effect encountered

Inhalation: under normal conditions, this oil does not exude any fumes

Eyes: flush immediately with plenty of water

Biodegradation: RDA-test > 40%, considered ultimately biodegradable

Keep the product out of the sewage and of the surface waters
